
G. Fred Goodsir, age 89 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 16, 2026. He was born on July 9, 1936, the son of George F. Sr and Virginia (Barker) Goodsir. Fred graduated from Brodhead H.S. in 1954. He served in the USMC until 1962 with active service in Korea. While attending Whitewater State College, he met and married Ann Parker of Watertown on Sept 9, 1957. They had two children, Julie and Joel.
Fred continued his education and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Education in 1960 and a M.S. Degree in School Administration from Winona MN State College in 1970. Following his college degrees, Fred taught Business Education at Gays Mills High School until 1963 and served as the High School Principal there until 1967 at which time he joined the J.B. Lippincott Publishing Company. In 1974, he joined the Staff of Blackhawk Technical School Institute where he served as coordinator of adult and continuing education and industrial training until 1980 when he became administrator of that division. In 1987, he became curriculum and staff developmental coordinator of vocational education, math and science for the Janesville Schools until retirement in 1994. Fred received commendation from the State of Wisconsin for his contributions to the State’s Early Education for Employment and school to work Initiatives.
Fred also held memberships in civic and service organizations including the Lion’s Club, Janesville Elks, Marine Corps League, American Legion, Retired Educators Association and Rotary Gardens Volunteers.
Fred had many hobbies. He enjoyed and took immense pride in his gardening and landscaping at their home. Fred and Joel enjoyed many deer hunting camps together and often shared lively and adventurous stories, though many details were left untold. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing and enjoyed the many convertible trips and organized fun rides they did with friends and family. Also, who could not forget the 33 years that he and Ann spent on the mighty Mississippi River at the Dubuque Marina with their extended family on the K & I dock.
Fred was also excited to be able to experience an amazing journey with the Badger Honor Flight program recently with his daughter, Julie. It was definitely a trip neither of them will forget.
Fred was best known for his spirit, singing abilities, being a tough Marine, his love of boats and maybe a little Korbel but most of all his white pants for every occasion. If you would like to join the family on his day of rest, please feel free to throw on some white pants!
Fred is survived by his wife Ann of 68 years, his daughter Julie (John) Williams, sister Gail (Joe) Liebig, granddaughters: Jennifer (Jake) Reible, Jaclyn Williams (Craig), Jordan (Mike) Stevens, Sara Goodsir (Julius), great grandchildren: Audrey, Easton, Aubree, River, Camden, Zuri and Callahan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim, his son Joel and great nephew Hunter.

Services were already held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the DL Newcomer Funeral Home. Fred was buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead, WI.
