Leonard Meehan, 93, passed away at Alden Meadows in Clinton, Wis., on April 7, 2026. He was born on Nov. 20, 1932, in Janesville, Wis., the son to Joseph and Irene (McKillip) Meehan. On June 16, 1956, he married Mildred Ann Franklin, who preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2025. Together they farmed in Evansville, Brooklyn, and Footville, before moving to Evansville in 1975.
Leonard was proud to serve for 4 years in the United States Navy on the USS Intrepid. He had the honor of being able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Leonard was very delighted when he learned that he would be recognized for his dedication, patriotism, and willingness to sacrifice for the freedom we all get to enjoy, at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony held at the Evansville High School Nov. 11, 2025, a true celebration of service.
Throughout his life, Leonard worked at Helgesen Harvester, Akey Welding and O’Brien Hybrid Seeds. Additionally, he enjoyed driving school bus for Scott and Julie Ringhand.
Leonard’s biggest passion in life was his family. He was truly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Leonard is survived by his children, Cheryl Lynn Greinert, Barbara Ann (Thomas) Halvensleben, Linda Elaine Goral, and Daniel Leonard Meehan; 8 grandchildren: Anna (Nathanial) Kinderman, Jeffrey Greinert, Matthew Trunkhill (Rhonda Tomlin), Mark Trunkhill and Joshua (Trista) Trunkhill, Stacie (Anthony) Cole, Gage (Allie) Meehan, and Alicia and Amelia Halvensleben; 7 great-grandchildren: Reagan, Mason, Jaycee and Reid Trunkhill, Adelynn Cole, Harrison and Lettie Kinderman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Mildred. His son, Jeffrey Daniel Meehan, brother Joseph Meehan and his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Schultz.
Visitation will be held at Ward-Hurtley Funeral Home, 130 South 5th Street, Evansville, Wis., on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 10 a.m. Service to follow at 11 a.m., with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery in Evansville, following the service for Leonard.
