DeLyle Sidney Amundson, age 89, of Orfordville, died unexpectedly Monday, June 1, 2026, at his home. He was born He was born January 14, 1937, in Spring Valley Township, Rock County, the son of Tilmen and Sadie (Olsen) Amundson. He was proud to say that he graduated from Pioneer-Engen School, a one room country school. He graduated from Orfordville High School in 1955. Lyle received his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Platteville State College in 1959 and Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Wyoming in 1967. He did further graduate studies in Mathematics at the University of Wyoming and University of Minnesota. Lyle taught school in Darlington, WI, and East Troy, WI. He then taught college at Ferris State, MI, University of Wyoming, University of Wisconsin Center- Medford, and UW- Rock County, Janesville. He was so proud to see his students achieve! He retired in 1999.
DeLyle married Carol Scidmore in 1959 in Janesville. Together they had four children: Stuart DeWayne, Steven Tilmen, Kristine Kae, and Timothy Clarence. They later divorced in 1986. He married Bernice Christianson Roberts in 1988.
Lyle was always active in his church. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, Sunday School Superintendent for 12 years, served on church councils numerous times, and also as church treasurer and as council president. He also served for many years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery Board. He enjoyed several hobbies including genealogy, gardening, winemaking, as well as fishing, camping, and traveling.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Bernice; children: Stuart (Lynn) Amundson, Steven (Marcy) Amundson, Kristine (Ken) Dean, Timothy (Stacey) Amundson, and Dan (Shelli) Roberts; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tilmen and Sadie Amundson; his stepmother Hazel Amundson; brothers, Virgil and Eugene; brother-in-law Nate Leuzinger; sisters-in-law Gerri Amundson and Rosemary Amundson; and stepbrother Harold Christenson. He was also predeceased by his first wife Carol Amundson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 8, 2026, at ORFORDVILLE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 210 N. Main St. Orfordville. Rev. Jeanette Thorp will officiate and burial will be in Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday from 9:30 AM until the hour of service at church.
