MADISON – Michael John “Mike” Wish, age 79, of Middleton, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 22, 1946, in Monroe, the son of John and Faun (Soliday) Wish.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy. He was a proud and devoted father and is lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael Wish II and Terryl (Michelle) Brown; his daughter, Nicole (Jeremy) Schaefer; and his grandson, Mason Schaefer. He is further survived by his sisters, Patricia Davidovich and Lynn Wish; nieces, Cathy (Stephen) Frisch and Julie Davidovich; great-niece, Michelle Blada; great-great-niece, Brielle Meyering; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was active in the Brodhead Boy Scouts and excelled in athletics, earning co-MVP honors on the Brodhead Cardinals High School football team. He was also a member of the wrestling team and competed in the state track and field championships in shot put. He graduated from Brodhead High School in 1964. During his youth, he developed a lifelong love of boating, especially time spent on Decatur Lake. He also had a passion for music and was the drummer for the rock ’n’ roll band, The Nocturnes, from 1962 to 1966.

Mike began his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He later served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of sergeant. Following his military service, he completed his degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Business.

On July 8, 1972, Mike was united in marriage to Nancy Dietrich in Madison. He was a devoted husband and father whose life was centered around his family. Known affectionately by many names—Dad, Papa, Mule Mike, Unc, and more—he will be remembered for his infectious laugh, warm smile, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Mike was known for his strong work ethic, beginning his career with Wisconsin Power and Light and later continuing with Dairyland Power Cooperative. He was also an active member of his communities, serving in the DeForest Lions Club, as Rotary President in Tomah, participating in the local Chamber of Commerce, and was President of the Condominium Association in Middleton where he lived.

Mike had a deep passion for family genealogy and spent countless hours tracing his family’s roots, uncovering stories of those who came before him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, strength, and a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A private family burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead.
