Patricia Ann Wenger, 76 of Brodhead, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at Collinwood Assisted Living on March 21, 2026. Patricia was born on February 26, 1950 in Avon Township, the eldest of four children, to La Vern and Betty (Nafzger) Wenger.
Patricia grew up on the Wenger family farm, where she helped out in many ways, including gathering eggs, weeding in the garden and helping her Dad by carrying pails of milk during milking, morning and night. Being responsible for chores during her youth instilled in her a life long interest in the activities of the farm. Patricia developed a love and deep interest in poultry; she acquired and loved to share with others her vast knowledge of many breeds of chickens.
At age 16 Patricia was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. Subsequent extensive surgery resulted in paralysis of the left side of her body and the necessary anti-convulsive medications caused a continual increase in loss of eyesight and hearing. Though her handicaps caused many physical limitations, Patricia continued to enjoy hearing news of family members and the seasonal work on the Wenger Farm.
By Patricia’s own admission, a most important event in her life occurred on June 29, 1970 when, realizing she was a sinner and needed a Savior, she rested completely on the truth in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Patricia never ceased to remember this moment in her life, when Heaven became her final destiny because the Lord Jesus took the punishment demanded for her sin to be forgiven. Throughout her life she loved to sing Sunday School songs and hymns; she also wanted for others to have the peace she had found.
Patricia graduated from Monroe Public School and then, because of her handicaps in sight, hearing and mobility, she took special training, including Braille and skills for independent living, at a secondary school in Wausau. When schooling was completed, Patricia moved to Fort Atkinson, where she lived independently and worked for many years in a sheltered workshop. Patricia loved working, and earned several employee awards for her ambitious and conscientious work ethic.
Patricia is survived by a sister, Jacqueline (John) Schmaedick, and two brothers, Michael (Lois) Wenger and Mark (Kelly) Wenger, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, La Vern and Betty Wenger, grandparents, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
Patricia’s family expresses huge thanks to the caregivers at Collinwood, who provided so much love and quality care to our sister for many years. We also appreciated the Agrace Hospice team who also added to the quality of Patricia’s life.
Services for Patricia were already held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the DL Newcomer Funeral home. She was buried at the MONROE, WI Greenwood Cemetery.
