Patricia Ann Tyson passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Elmhurst Hospital after a brave fight with cancer.

She was born on July 18, 1940, to James and Juila Rood in Chicago, Illinois. The oldest of three daughters, Patricia was joined by the late Martha and Marita. Despite their age difference, Patricia and Marita were very close, a relationship they nurtured all their lives until Marita’s passing in 2014.

Patricia met Richard David Tyson in 1959, and they were married in November later that year. They made their home in Chicago, where she worked at Motorola. They welcomed son, David, in October 1960. Patricia and Richard moved to Elmhurst in 1964. Also in 1964, they welcomed son, Victor, and their family was complete.

She lived an active life marked by caring for her family, working as a waitress, and she was an accomplished volleyball player. She was instrumental in establishing the Women’s Power Volleyball League in the 1970’s and continued organizing and playing volleyball into her 80’s.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard; sons David (Paula Fackrell) and Victor (Wendy Piraro); nieces Tiffany and April, and nephew Andrew. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Services will be held on Friday, February 20, at Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home, 435 North York Street, Elmhurst, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s name to either St. Jude’s or Wounded Warrior Project.
